How do I create a small, lightweight WMF file?

I have been saving ("exporting") wmf files containing vector drawings successfully with the free DrawPlus 4. These wmf files are successfully opened with and inserted into WordPerfect X6 documents. The problem is that I don't know how to create a small vector drawing exporting as a lightweight wmf file. The smallest page size offered when I "Start a drawing" in DP is A5. I have to fill the whole A5 page with my drawing, otherwise I end up with a large white empty space around or underneath the drawing -- in the wmf vector drawing file exported. The weight of an A5-sized drawing (in a wmf file) might be 3 MB. Sometimes you want to insert a thumbnail-sized vector drawing into a document, the weight of it perhaps 30 kb. How do I produce such a small, lightweight vector drawing (exported as wmf file) with DrawPlus 4? The problem might be solved, I guess, if I could select a small drawing, and then save or export just the selection, not the whole A5 page. But how do I save or export just the selection? As soon as I can solve my problems, I'm going to buy DrawPlus X5. (I received a very attractive offer from Serif. Does this mean DrawPlus X6 is about to be released?)
